Sadly on July 2, 2015 around 1:30 in the afternoon in the eastbound lanes of I-20 between Virginia and Broad Streets in Mobile there was a horrific accident involving an 18 wheeler and 5 other vehicles. A total of 10 people were taken to area hospitals for injuries. Tragically, one of these 10 people will never be returning home. Jaimie Witcraft, a 22 year old nursing student at The University of South Alabama, died as a result of her injuries in this horrific crash. Reporter Rose Ann Haven with WRKG News 5 (www.wkrg.com) talked with Jaimie’s father, Joe Witcraft, who explained that “My daughter didn’t even know what happened, what hit her.”
According to Mobile Police, the 18 wheeler crushed two vehicles, pushing a silver hummer on its side up against a concrete barrier. And in between the 18 wheeler and the hummer, they found a red vehicle that was crushed so severely they could not even tell if it was a car or a truck. Jaimie was in that red vehicle. Mobile Police Officer Terence Perkins stated “We believe speed was a factor as the truck driver came over the hill and was unable to stop properly due to traffic being backed up. He just wasn’t able to stop properly before striking the vehicle.” Perkins also said that they are investigating this as a traffic fatality and no criminal charges are pending at the time. The truck driver has been fully cooperative.
We at Ron Kim Law want to express our deepest heartfelt sympathies for the Witcraft family. This is most definitely a situation where a precious young life has been taken far too soon.
