A Germantown police officer was pronounced dead on the scene of a horrific motorcycle accident occurring May 18, 2011.
Officer Dustin Lee Martin, decorated Marine veteran and police officer, lost his life after a colliding with a vehicle attempting to turn on Germantown Parkway near Woodchase Drive. The driver, an unidentified 26-year-old man, was taken to the MED in non-critical condition. The City of Germantown as pronounced a great deal of grief over the loss of the cherished public defender, releasing a short biography of the fallen officer:
Officer Dustin Lee Martin began his career with Germantown Police Department on February 27, 2006. Prior to joining the department, he served in the United States Marine Corps, where he retired after 20+ years of service. He was a decorated veteran, having received the Meritorious Service Medal among other awards.
Officer Martin served the citizens of Germantown as a member of the day shift Uniform Patrol Division. He was also a member of the department’s SWAT team and served on President Obama’s security detail when he visited Memphis earlier this week.
Officer Martin was married and had a young daughter. He was 43 years old.
As summer comes to full swing in the Mid-South, motorcycles become more popular among both officers and civilians.
