There is a time for work, and there is a time for play; however, always must we remain attentive on the road.
On May 7, 2011, Tennessee Highway Patrolman Andrew Wall and another trooper were escorting U.S. AirForce Thunderbird pilots to the Smyrna Air Show. The negligence of another driver precipitated a major wreck on Sam Ridley Parkway, tossing the two officers off of their motorcycles. Accompanying officer Buddy Head was taken to a local hospital and was summarily released. Wall was rushed to Vanderbilt Medical Center and, to the lament of many, passed away shortly after, ending a seven year term with the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The accident deprived a family from a son, sibling, and boyfriend. Officers from around the country gathered to salute his memory.
May we never forget to honor fallen officers such as Andy Wall, men of courage and fortitude who put their very lives on the line to ensure our safety. The badge bears with it a host of tribulations: According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, in 2011 there has already been a 9% increase in the loss of officer life, with a 41% increase in gunfire deaths.
