WHEN IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT
When in an auto accident-DO NOT:
• Leave the scene of the accident.
• Try to move any injured person.
• Lose your temper.
• Take the blame for the accident. Simply be truthful and explain to the officer your version of how the accident occurred, keeping in mind that any statement made by you is an admission by you and admissible in court and will likely be written down on the police report.
• Make any statements recorded or written to the other party’s insurance carrier.
• Don’t be pressured into accepting an offer from the at fault individual’s insurance carrier.
When in an auto accident–DO:
• Call the police.
• Check on everyone involved to see if they might need medical treatment.
• Remain calm so you can think clearly.
• Take pictures of the accident scene and damage to all involved vehicles.
• Exchange information with the other driver (name, phone number, insurance).
• Call YOUR insurance company and report that accident.
• Get names and numbers of any witnesses.
• Seek medical treatment if you are injured.
• Take pictures of your injuries.
• Keep a record of your medical treatment (hospitals or doctors you visited).
